(The following appeared in the March 1995 Appaloosa Journal.) J&B Big Red has had a career that has taken the 1973 chestnut stallion from the winner's circle to the front of a Grand Championship Halter class. More impressive than his own list of accomplishments is the horse's ability to pass his exceptional abilities on to his get. Bred by William E. Robinson of Pleasant Grove, Utah., J&B Big Red is by Big Red Bar (TB), a son of the legendary Three Bars, and out of the Appaloosa mare Miss Gold Bar. As a two year-old, the stallion made his debut on the race track and over the course of 1975 and 1976, he finished first in such races as the Golden Spike Maturity, the Wild Hope Futurity, and the Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Stakes, earning six wins, three places, and a show for 13 starts. In addition, J&B Big Red earned a bronze racing medallion and the 1976 Race Horse of the Year title. After his success on the track, J&B Big Red was shown in halter competition in 1979 and 1980, earning multiple first placings and championships, including the Grand Championship title at the 1980 National Western Stock Show. Now owned by Caines Show Horses of Wynewood, Okla., and the sire of 87 registered foals, including medallion winners in racing, halter, and performance, J&B Big Red has produced horses that excel both on the track as well as in the arena. Bronze medallion winner, Roy L. Duke, the most successful runner sired by J&B Big Red to date, has a record of nine wins, three places and a show for 19 starts. On the show circuit, J&B Big Red progeny, including Heza Big Red, Touch Of Red, and Sweet Miss Red, have accumulated more than 1,500 points in open, non-pro, and youth competition. As a versatile performer and a sire of champions in a wide array of events, J&B Big Red, has proven himself to be a genuine tribute to the versatility of the Appaloosa breed. {This article, by A.J.
