The first foal by her dam, Sheza Star, Starza's Pine is by Pine's Webb (AQHA). Although she only produced 14 foals, with only two of those being stallions, the mare passed on quality. Her foals have earned more than 572 performance points, 121 halter points, 588 non-pro points and 44 youth points. Her four medallion earners have accumulated 10 bronze medallions, one superior achievement certificate, one versatility championship and two performance superior event awards. The mare, who was foaled in 1969 and passed away in 1996 due to old age, had many great breeders and trainers pass through her life. She was purchased by Anna and C.E. Newman of Sarasota, Florida, in 1971 and remained with the couple until 1989. While with the Newmans, Starza's Pine was their son Harry's faithful mount. Both Harry and Starza's Pine benefited from the expertise of Florida trainer Jack Hennig and it was while in training with Hennig that Starza's Pine won her award of excellence as the Florida Appaloosa Horse Club high-point junior reining horse. In 1989 Janice and Charles Davis, Jr. of Lilburn, Georgia, purchased Starza's Pine and shortly thereafter she was purchased by Earl Burchett of Social Circle, Georgia, where she remained until she was purchased by Crown Center Farms in 1994. Starza's Pine lived out her days at Crown Center Farms in Columbia, Missouri. Starza's Pine's produce include 1989 World champion Tardee Pine who stood at Burchett's Training Center and then Alan-Brook Farms in Ashland, Virginia, until his unexpected death in 1996. Her bronze medallion earners include She Is A Riker, Starza Riker, Totally Pine and Tardee Pine. {This article and accompanying photograph were originally published in the Appaloosa Journal, March 1998, Vol 52, No. 3, &auot;Field Notes Appaloosa Hall of Fame Starza's Pine" and are used here by permission.} Copyright © 1998 Appaloosa Horse Club.
